Ignacio Gomez "Telling Stories under Crossing Fire in Colombia"

Journalism in America can be considered many things, and in some cases, it can be a little dangerous. But this is nothing compared to the dangers of being a journalist in Colombia. Although it was a little hard to understand with his accent, it was easy to concur that Ignacio Gomez has experienced real danger in being a journalist. With an average of 7 colleagues dying for their profession per year, it was obvious that something had to be done about this mass killing spree. That's where FLiP comes in, The Foundation for the Freedom of the Press. FLiP gives journalists in Colombia protection against predators and give them a sort of survival kit so as to reduce their chances of being one of the many murdered journalists in Colombia. As of now, there are 30 journalists in the protective FLiP program and there is no doubt that more will be added. And hopefully with the help of FLiP, no more will be subtracted.
